What was it about Chirbury and the Herbert arms that made you want to take it on?

What really attracted us to Chirbury, and the Herbert Arms was that it’s a beautiful country pub in a fantastic location. It has a lot of character, sits in a wonderful part of the countryside, and we could see the potential to build a reputation as a welcoming destination for both locals and visitors.

How would you describe The Herbert Arms, is it a foodie destination, a local, or a bit of both?

It’s very much a bit of both. We’re passionate about serving great food and creating a dining experience that people will travel for, but at heart, we’re still a village pub. It’s important to us that locals feel just as welcome popping in for a pint, a glass of wine, or a chat as someone coming for a special meal. We want The Herbert Arms to be somewhere that brings people together – a place where you can enjoy fantastic food, but also a warm, relaxed atmosphere and a real sense of community.

How would you describe your style of food?

Our food is centred around quality, locally sourced ingredients and letting those ingredients speak for themselves. We have a great choice of steaks on the menu, which is something we’re proud of, but we also make sure there’s plenty of choice for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. The aim is to create honest, flavourful dishes that feel special without being overly complicated.  We just want a great dining experience.

What can diners expect to eat and what is your favourite dish?

Diners can expect a menu that offers something for everyone. We’re particularly known for our range of quality steaks, which are a big part of what we do, but we also serve some great pub classics throughout the week. On Tuesdays, we have our popular pizza night, which has become a real favourite with both locals and visitors.

As for my favourite dish, it would have to be a good steak. When you start with quality ingredients and cook them well, it’s hard to beat. That said, the variety on the menu means there’s always something to suit the occasion, whether you’re after a hearty pub meal, a pizza with friends, or a more indulgent dining experience.

If someone is just stopping by for a quick drink, what is the quintessential Herbert Arms pint or drink they should order?

If you’re stopping by for a quick drink, I’d recommend trying one of our local ales. We’re fortunate to have some fantastic breweries in the area. They really reflect the character of the region and are often the first thing people ask for when they come in. Of course, we have a great selection of other drinks too, but a well-kept local ale is probably the quintessential Herbert Arms pint.

Are there any special nights or events our guests need to look out for?

Our regular favourites are Pizza Night every Tuesday and Steak Night every Wednesday. We’ll also be hosting special events throughout the year, including tapas nights, quiz nights and bingo nights, so there’s always something to look forward to.

In three words, what does a Friday night at the Herbert Arms feel like?

Warm, lively, welcoming.
